Depression
In America an estimated 19 million adults are living with a major depression. Here in the UK 5-10% of the population at any one time is suffering.
The label of depression usually refers to people who suffer from some of the following symptoms:
• Tiredness
• Sadness
• Guilt
• Inability to sleep
• Loss of appetite
• Despair
• Anger
• Overeating
• Grief
• Lack of energy
• Loss of confidence
Cognitive psychologists know that by changing our thoughts and beliefs, we change the way we feel. In other words, it’s not what happens to us, it’s what we believe about the event that makes the difference.
In my book ‘How to Change Your Life’ I talk about how one person can lose their job and feel depressed, and how another can lose their job, and jump for joy. This is because the first person believes that it’s terrible she’s lost her job and no-one else will employ her because she is ‘worthless’. While the other person believes that he has an opportunity to take a much needed break and then find another job with better prospects.
In a nutshell, whether you think something is good or bad—you’re right!
I have helped many people to over come the feelings of depression. Normally a course of 6 sessions of hypnotherapy is required, for best results, although some may benefit from more. I thought I would take this opportunity to give you some feed back regarding the six sessions that I have sat with you regarding hypnotherapy for my claustrophobia and consequently, panic attacks that I had been experiencing.
After consulting with yourself back in Late November 2006, I found you to be very understanding, friendly and knowledgeable in your area of work which was very comforting as I felt quite embarrassed about the problem I was going through.
It was whilst traveling to and from work on the train (like a packed sardine) for quite a few years now, that it was becoming quite unbearable and the feeling of being out of control would bring on panic attacks. I had a thought that this may have had something to do with my childhood, as whilst at a football match (before all seating came in) I was crushed by hundreds of fans trying to get out of the football ground which I must say was terrifying to say the least.
Through your self-help techniques, regression (exploring the past) and the hypnotherapy sessions at your centre, I have been able to overcome this situation by a long way and feel a much more positive person all over.
I would certainly recommend you to family, friends and colleagues.
I am very grateful.
